The Migjeni Theater (Albanian Teatri Migjeni) is located in the northern Albanian city of Shkodra. The theater building is located in the city center near Sheshi Demokracia. It was built in 1958 and named after the Shkodra-born poet Migjeni (1911-1938). It is known for its romantic and poetic stagings, often mixed with national political themes. Already in the predecessor building first performances took place here starting from 1879. Since women were forbidden to acting until 1919, until then men had to take over the women’s roles. During the socialist regime many pieces by Bertolt Brecht were shown here.
