What are Private Cars?

Private cars are a Fast & Furious alternative to traditional public transport. These are privately owned vehicles that locals have turned into a form of shared transportation. Offering a glimpse into Albanian life and a chance to connect with locals, these cars can be found near the city center of Shkodër, often clustered around key points like bus stations.

Convenience and Cost

For around 1000 LEK (~10EUR) per person, you can hop into one of these cars for a journey to Tirana or the airport. This option provides a level of convenience not found in larger buses. You’ll often find these cars departing when they have a full load of passengers, ensuring a timely departure.

Embrace the Adventure

Traveling in these cars is not just a means of getting from point A to point B; it’s an adventure in itself. You’ll share the journey with locals, perhaps hearing stories, getting tips or make connections.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Safety: While these cars are a unique experience, it’s essential to exercise caution as they may not adhere to formal safety standards. Ensure you’re comfortable with the vehicle before boarding.
  • Flexibility: The departure times can vary based on when the car fills up with passengers. If you’re in a rush, it might be best to consider other options.
  • Cash: Be prepared with cash (LEK/EUR) for your fare, as these cars might not accept card payments.

Final Thoughts

So, if you’re up for an adventure and want to experience Albania beyond the usual tourist routes, consider taking this option from Shkodër to Tirana or the airport. An immersive way to travel, offering a glimpse into the daily lives of locals and a chance to make some unique memories along the way.

Enjoy the journey!
